Quick Fixes

Bedroom
Bedrooms:
  • Move beds away from windows
  • Remove pictures and mirrors from above beds
  • Keep a pair of shoes and a flashlight under the bed
  • Anchor tall and heavy closets and dressers
Kitchen
Kitchen and living room:
  • Secure open shelves with a guard rail to prevent items from falling out
  • Secure small appliances such as microwaves and televisions with velcro, tape or other fastening devices
  • Secure hanging objects such as plants, mirrors or artwork
  • Fasten cabinet doors with latches

Yard:
  • Store flammable or hazardous materials carefully, preferably away from the home
  • Keep your yard maintained and free of brush that could catch fire
