It was a relief after months of being closed to in-person service to finally reopen our doors again in mid July. We all just wanted to get back to normal. But as we planned out our new ways of working, it hit us, nothing is normal. To keep everyone safe, we can’t have a store bustling with people like we’re used to. We can’t give each other a friendly hug, shake hands or offer free coffee. Now, to keep everyone distanced and safe from the virus, we can only have a few people in our locations at one time. There are plexiglass shields, directional signs and no coffee. This is not BCAA, but it has to be for now.
It pains us to say this, but appointments are necessary at this time. That means no walk-ins. It’s an adjustment for sure, and we don’t love it either. So many of us are used to dropping in as we have been doing for years. Now we have line ups as soon as we open in the morning and we have to turn people away because we are fully booked. Some are driving great distances only to find out we can’t see them. And we hate disappointing you, our Members and customers.
Silver lining – and yes, there is one
Here’s the good news. It doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to see us in person. If anything has come out of this horrible pandemic for us, it’s that we’ve been able to adjust our services so that all business with BCAA can be done by phone and/or online. Here’s how:
ICBC AutoplanAll ICBC transactions can be done by phone. There is an online component that requires an email exchange, but apart from that, it can all be handled with one call to us.
- Tip: We recommend you renew as soon as you get your notice.
Optional Car insuranceYou can renew or buy a new policy online or by phone.
Home & renter’s insuranceYou can renew or buy a new policy online or by phone.
MembershipYou can renew, buy or make changes to your Membership over the phone or online.
Please note that our wait times might be a little longer than usual and a heavy volume of calls at peak times can cause glitches on our phone lines from time to time. We promise you we are working through this and should have it smoothed out soon.
For now, here’s a tip – our highest call volumes are on Mondays and days following long weekends. The best time to call is afternoons or Saturdays when you should be able to get through to us quicker.
If you really want to see us in person
If doing business through email and online is simply not for you or isn’t possible at this time, please book an appointment by calling your local BCAA Service Location (make sure you hit #5 in the phone tree). It's also worth noting that we have changed our hours, and it may take a week or more to get an appointment, so please plan ahead.
And, finally, when you do come to see us in person please take a deep breath and try to be kind to our hardworking team members. We’ve had some situations of people losing their tempers with us, and that is hard on everyone. To the Members and customers who’ve said we were doing a great job and that they appreciated everything we were doing, thank you. We really needed to hear that. And to the customer who gave his appointment to someone in line who didn’t have one – thank you. These acts of kindness make all the difference.
And finally, thank you for your business. We know you have other options, and we appreciate your loyalty. We’ve been here for more than 100 years, and with your help we will be here for a hundred more. We look forward to chatting soon.
