Your Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption Insurance has been renamed “Non-medical Travel Package” and enhanced to include (1) Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption Insurance, (2) Additional Air Travel Related Expenses, (3) Baggage Insurance, (4) TravelGold® Accident Insurance. We’re pleased to also provide the following enhancements to your policy:

General

Coverage Offering

Available as an individual base plan or optional coverage or as part of the Deluxe Holiday Package optional coverage.

Coverage Offering Change

The Deluxe Holiday Package is now called the Non-medical Travel Package and still includes:

  • Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption Insurance
  • TravelGold Accident Insurance
  • Baggage Insurance
  • Additional Air Travel Related Expenses

Trip Cancellation & Interruption is now only available as part of the Non-medical Travel Package. The package can be sold as a base plan or as an optional coverage to an Emergency Medical Insurance or a Rental Car Protection base plan.

Covered Risks

Conferences/Seminars

New Covered Risk

Covers cancellation of a conference, seminar, workshop, convention, symposium or retreat.

Being Summoned for Duty

Covers being summoned to police, fire or military service (active or reserve).

Enhanced Coverage

Now also covers being summoned for paramedic service.

Travel Advisory/Warning

Covers a formal travel advisory or warning provided the advisory/warning is still in effect on the scheduled departure date.

Enhanced Coverage

Covers a formal travel advisory or warning provided the advisory/warning is still in effect on the scheduled departure date or at any time within the 7 days before the scheduled departure date.

Schedule Change

Covers a schedule change of an airline carrier when there is a missed connection. Strikes and labour disruptions are excluded from schedule change coverage.

Enhanced Coverage

Covers the following:

  • Schedule change of any common carrier when there is a missed connection
  • Schedule change of any common carrier when there is no missed connection but there is a delay of at least 4 hours
  • Schedule change now also includes strikes and labour disruptions.

The benefit for pet boarding fees has also been added to these new covered risks.

Cancellation of a Common Carrier

New Covered Risk

Covers the cancellation of a common carrier for any reason other than bankruptcy, insolvency or quarantine.

Cruise Cancellation

Covers up to $1,000 for non-refundable pre-paid transportation that is not part of the cruise for:

  • Cancellation of a cruise due to insolvency, mechanical failure, grounding or quarantine
  • Cancellation of a cruise due to repositioning of the cruise ship, weather conditions, earthquakes or volcanic eruptions.

Enhanced Coverage

  • Cancellation of a cruise ship due to mechanical failure, weather conditions, earthquakes or volcanic eruptions are now covered under the new common carrier cancellation covered risk, which has more benefits such as reimbursement for all unused travel costs and out of pocket expenses.
  • Repositioning of a cruise ship is now a separate covered risk. The benefit for out of pocket expenses has been added to this coverage as well.

Note: There is no coverage change for the cancellation of a cruise ship due to bankruptcy, insolvency, grounding or quarantine.

Benefits

Pet Boarding Fees

Covers up to $150 for additional boarding fees for accompanying pets if the insured's return is delayed.

Coverage is available after the first 24 hours of the originally scheduled return date.

Enhanced Coverage

Benefit still covers up to $150 for additional boarding fees for accompanying pets but now coverage is available to and from the insured's travel destination and there is no longer a 24-hour restriction.

Repatriation

Covers up to $5,000 for either burial or cremation at the place of death.

Enhanced Benefit

The cost of one death certificate is also now covered under the burial or cremation benefit.

Conditions

Trip Cancellation - Physician Consultation

To substantiate the reason for cancelling, a physician must be consulted prior to cancelling any trip.

Enhanced Coverage

If it’s not possible to consult a physician on or before the scheduled date of departure, a physician can be consulted within one business day from the scheduled date of departure.

General Conditions

Termination for Non-Payment

New General Condition

Added a new General Condition to clarify that when a premium is not paid, the company reserves the right to terminate the policy without notice, except as otherwise provided by law.

Procedures

Trip Cancellation for Sum Insureds over $30,000

Insureds purchasing trip cancellation with a sum insured of $30,000 and over must complete a Trip Cancellation Quote Request Form.

Insureds 60 years and over also must answer a Medical Health Questionnaire on the form to qualify to purchase over $30,000.

Enhanced Customer Experience

The Trip Cancellation Quote Form is no longer required and all insureds are qualified to purchase. Trip cancellation is always available up to a maximum limit of $100,000 when purchased as part of the Non-medical Travel Package.

Membership Discount

Membership discounts are not applicable for optional coverages.

Enhanced Feature

The Membership discount is now available for the Non-medical Travel Package when sold as a base plan or an optional coverage.
