Anyone from B.C. who drives a vehicle needs insurance. BCAA steers you through the many coverage options to find the best plan for you.

ICBC Autoplan Insurance

BCAA offers ICBC Basic Autoplan and Optional insurance.

What's included in Basic Autoplan

  • Third-Party Liability (limit of $200,000): if you are found legally responsible for someone else's injury or damage to their property, then Third-Party Liability coverage will pay for claims or damages awarded against you.
  • Accident Benefits: if you are injured in a motor vehicle crash, Accident Benefits will help with medical costs and wage loss.
  • Underinsured Motorist Protection (limit of $1,000,000): if you are injured or killed by the owner or operator of an underinsured vehicle and you're not at-fault, Underinsured Motorist Protection will provide coverage if the at-fault motorist does not have enough insurance and can't pay the claim.
  • Hit-and-Run and Uninsured Motorists: automatic coverage up to a maximum of $200,000 is available to anyone whose property is damaged, or who is injured or killed by an uninsured or hit-and-run driver on a highway in BC. This coverage is available to all BC residents regardless of whether they own and insure a vehicle.
  • Inverse Liability: sometimes, due to legal restrictions, it is not possible to recover the cost of repairs to your vehicle from motorists from other parts of Canada and the United States. Inverse Liability will cover those losses to the extent that you are not at-fault.

What's included in ICBC Optional Coverage

  • Collision: covers damage to your own vehicle as a result of impact with another vehicle, person or object.
  • Comprehensive: covers damage to your vehicle caused by something other than collision, such as fire, theft, glass or vandalism.
  • Excess Third-Party Liability: covers you when you are deemed responsible for injury to a third party or damage to their property. Various limits of liability are available. BCAA recommends vehicle owners purchase a minimum of $3 million in coverage.
  • Specified Perils: similar to Comprehensive and less expensive, but provides coverage only for specific perils.
  • Excess Underinsured Motorist Protection: purchase an additional $1 million Underinsured Motorist Protection for a total of $2 million.

Good news for good drivers!

Safe drivers save. Vehicle owners who have had no at-fault claims for at least nine years are called ICBC RoadStars. If you’ve had no at-fault claims for 15 years, you are a RoadStar Gold.

What RoadStars and RoadStar Golds are eligible for

  • RoadStar Package: pay only $21 and includes Rental Vehicle Coverage, Vehicle Travel Protection and Loss of Use Coverage.
  • Savings even after an at-fault claim: RoadStar Golds save even more on insurance premiums and move fewer steps on the Claim Rated Scale.
  • New Vehicle Replacement Plus Option: available to first-time owners of new vehicles (current or future model year). In the event the vehicle is substantially damaged, this policy allows you a brand new vehicle or cash settlement equal to the original price, plus a built-in factor for inflation.
