The Basics of auto insurance

Why do I need auto insurance?

If you operate a vehicle, whether it's a car, truck, motorcycle or recreational vehicle, you're required by law to have insurance. Anything motorized and driven on the road in B.C. has to have at least Basic Autoplan coverage.

How does auto insurance work in B.C.?

Auto insurance in B.C. is made up of mandatory Basic Autoplan and also additional Optional coverages. Basic Autoplan is provided by the Insurance Corporation of BC (ICBC) through various brokers including BCAA. Optional coverage like Collision, Comprehensive, Extended Third Party Liability and more is available through ICBC and from private insurers like BCAA. BCAA offers our Member-exclusive Advantage Auto Optional insurance.
