BCAA Connect Platform Community Guidelines & Terms of Use

BCAA Connect allows British Columbians to share comments, resources, and opinions easily and authentically. We encourage engagement across all our platforms to maintain a positive and friendly environment guided by the five beliefs at the core of our ‘One BCAA’ culture:

  1. Doing the right thing
  2. The power of community
  3. Putting people first
  4. Protecting our home
  5. Shaping the future

We expect everyone in the BCAA Connect community to follow both the letter and the spirit of our community guidelines and Terms of Service. The guidelines apply to everyone and everything on our platform and are updated on an ongoing basis to address new risks and harms. These Guidelines are enforced by BCAA Administrators.

Community Guidelines

Everyone is asked to be courteous and honest in their interactions.

  • Be Yourself - this is a place to share your experiences and knowledge on topics of interest to you and the community.
  • Be Truthful - when sharing knowledge or joining in discussions, accurately represent situations and clearly communicate. If you make a mistake, it’s okay, acknowledge and correct it as soon as you can.
  • Be Respectful - this is a public forum and is meant to enable exchanges of information and goods, so use friendly and courteous language.
  • Protect confidential and personal information - Privacy is everyone’s responsibility. Protecting privacy rights and personal information of yourself and others, and keeping our platform secure, are critical to maintaining your trust and ensuring your safety. No one wants others to share their confidential or sensitive personal information.
  • Be Mindful - We are all humans behind our avatars -. Think twice before posting. It’s easy to make a comment, but hard to take it and its impact back.

BCAA reserves the right to remove any posts or comments that it, in its sole discretion, considers inappropriate, counter to our core values or that includes confidential or personal information of community members.

Age Limit

Access to the BCAA Connect platform is limited to people aged 19 and older. Be mindful that our platform is open to people across a wide age range, and range of experience.

Things to Consider When Sharing Images

Here are a few things to consider when sharing images: does it show a license plate, street address, account number or other sensitive personal information in the background? If so, don’t share the image and choose one without that information showing.

All community members will ensure that they are the rightsholder of any images they post or share to the BCAA Connect platform. AI images are allowed on BCAA Connect but should be clearly identified as such. AI images that misrepresent facts, individuals or institutions are not allowed and fall under the category of misinformation.

BCAA Connect allows users to connect with each other through private messaging but these community guidelines still apply to such private messages and users are reminded to report any suspected violations of these guidelines when dealing with one another. Repeated violations may result in suspension or removal from the platform, in BCAA’s sole discretion.

Content Removal

BCAA reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to remove any posts or comments that it considers inappropriate, counter to our core values or that include confidential community member information.

Any BCAA Connect user can flag and report content that violates our guidelines. The content will be reviewed and a determination made for removal.

A user will be notified that their post has been removed, receive a warning, and be informed of the reason for its removal. The user will also be notified that account suspension or removal from the platform may result from further violations.

Account Suspension and Permanent Removal

Though we hate to do it, we reserve the right to suspend, and/or permanently remove users from the platform that violate or neglect these community guidelines.

Our content moderation team will review flagged or reported content on a case-by-case basis and use their discretion and the following process to determine if accounts will be suspended and/or removed from the platform.

Users who are found in violation of the guidelines and have had content removed will be notified of the removal, told which guideline was violated, and cautioned that additional violations of these community guidelines can lead to account suspension and permanent removal.

If users have content removed a second time, the user will also be subject to a temporary account suspension of one week. A user will be notified that an account suspension is being initiated and will be provided the opportunity to appeal this decision by emailing connectsupport@bcaa.com.

If, after reactivation of the account, the user continues to violate these content guidelines, the account will be banned and removed permanently. A user will be notified that the account has been banned and will be provided with the opportunity to make their own submissions by emailing connectsupport@bcaa.com. BCAA will then make and notify the user of its final determination.

BCAA reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to suspend or permanently remove users from the platform without a first or second warning depending on the nature and severity of the violation.
