Free Evolve E-Cargo bikes are back on the North Shore!
3/31/2025Whether it’s groceries, other stuff or your squad, there’s a free and easy way to move it around North Vancouver!
Evolve E-Bike Share, created by BCAA, is once again bringing innovative, shared mobility to Vancouver's North Shore. After a hugely successful pilot run last year, the Evolve E-Cargo bike program is back until October 2025.
Evolve E-Cargo gives North Shore residents FREE e-cargo bike rentals. So, you can carry groceries and other items free of charge – and get some fresh air while you’re at it.
Roll home with your gear in tow
Evolve E-Bike Share is proud to reintroduce BC's first e-cargo bike pilot program. Our Evolve E-Cargo bike pilot program offers you two bike styles:
- Long-tail e-cargo bikes: You can carry groceries, gear or passengers.
- Cargo box e-cargo bikes: These are perfect for bulkier loads when you want to haul sports gear, hockey bags, boxes and crates, tools and groceries.
These bikes are practical, spacious and make it easy for you to leave the car behind, saving you the hassle of parking and driving. E-cargo bikes get you to the store fast, replace short car trips and support more liveable, people-first communities.
Know before you go: Learn more about the two styles of Evolve E-Cargo Bikes. Whether you’re hauling groceries or passengers, check these safety tips from our partners at HUB Cycling before rolling.
Where to pick up your e-cargo bike
You’ll find our e-cargo bikes at City of North Vancouver Public Library and Lynn Valley Public Library. They are also available at The Lonsdale for residential tenants. So North Vancouverites can get convenient access to zero-emission transportation as they tick off their to do lists.
There are two ways to pick up an Evolve E-Cargo bike:
Public library pickups on the North Shore
- Download the Evo app: Sign up or log in and select ‘e-bikes/e-scooters’ if you don’t need car share (no driver’s license needed!).
- Book your ride: Select ‘Evo Return’ in the app, choose your preferred date, time, and branch location.
- Pick up the bike: Show your booking confirmation at your reserved time and location to collect the keys.
- Review safety instructions: Follow on-site or online guidance, be sure to wear a helmet and enjoy a safe ride.
- Return the bike: Return it to your same library location and return the keys at the counter.
North Shore condo pickups
- Available only for tenants of The Lonsdale on 13th Street West.
- Tenants must sign up on the Evo app, and bookings are made in person at designated property offices.
Only same-day rentals are available during the pilot, with fines for late returns or no-shows to ensure fair access for all.
Riding green in BC
Since launching in 2021, Evolve E-Bike Share programs have launched in multiple BC cities. To help make lower emission transport more accessible, you can now rent e-bikes in Whistler, Nanaimo, Courtney, Comox and SFU Burnaby Campus.
"As a local company and having operated our Evo Car Share service in North Vancouver for years, it’s exciting to further expand mobility options in the region with this innovative program,” said Leanne Buhler, Head of Evolve E-Bike and E-Scooter Share.
“The success of last year's pilot showed us that residents are eager for convenient transport alternatives, and we can't wait to see even more people using e-cargo bikes in 2025."
This innovative Evolve E-Cargo pilot program is a collaboration with District of North Vancouver (DNV) and City of North Vancouver (CNV), and is proudly supported by BC Hydro, Translink and Landlord BC. Together, we're helping make shared transportation more accessible to all.
