BCAA Team Members give back: Over $359,000 donated, 3,295 volunteer hours and 260 charities supported

At BCAA, we believe that when we empower our people to give back to the causes that matter most to them, our BC communities get stronger, safer and more connected. That’s the purpose behind BCAA Gives Back. This program makes volunteering and donating more accessible, more rewarding and more impactful for every team member across BCAA.

Why giving back matters at BCAA

BCAA is proud to be certified by Imagine Canada as part of the Prism Network (formerly Caring Company). This recognition is awarded to organizations that invest at least 1% of pre-tax profits into activities that support the communities where their employees live and work. This honour reflects our long-standing commitment to protecting things that matter most to British Columbians.

Across the province, BCAA team members are giving their time, energy and resources to a wide range of causes they care about including animal rescues, food security programs and life-saving health services.

Making it easier for team members to give back

Through BCAA Gives Back, team members can choose the causes that matter most to them with BCAA helping to boost the impact they make in their communities. With flexible options to either donate time or dollars, this program provides 1:1 corporate matching of donations up to $125 per team member which can be directed to one organization or shared across multiple causes each fiscal year. Team members also can earn their matching dollars by volunteering instead, helping turn every volunteer hour into additional monetary support for charities across BC. For every hour volunteered, team members can earn $10 from their matching funds to donate to a registered charity of their choice. We're proud to support BC communities together.

We know many people want to volunteer but struggle to find time. That’s why BCAA also offers the Employee Volunteer Program, giving team members up to a full work day of paid time off each year to volunteer at a charitable organization in their community. It’s one simple way we make doing good a little easier.

Celebrating a year of community impact

This past year, BCAA team members showed the power of coming together by showing up for BC communities in a big way:

  • 28% of BCAA team members volunteered in their communities
  • BCAA team members contributed 3,295 hours of their time to community organizations across BC
  • 47% of team members participated in charitable giving

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our team members and on-going corporate support, we’ve contributed over $359,000+ and 3,295 volunteer hours to over 260 charities across BC over our latest fiscal year.

These numbers reflect thousands of impactful acts of kindness, community connection and generosity that stretch well beyond the workplace. One of those stories belongs to our Road Assist team member, Darshan.

Spotlight: Darshan’s life-saving journey with plasma donation

For Darshan, giving back started with a deeply personal experience. She made her first blood donation in 2022 during a blood drive for her friend’s young daughter who was battling terminal cancer. Also inspired by the life-extending care her Auntie Gayle had received, Darshan continued donating whole blood, then switched to plasma donation in 2024.

Plasma, often called “liquid gold,” is used in treatments for immune deficiencies, bleeding disorders and cancer. Darshan has now made 19 plasma donations at the Abbotsford Plasma Donor Centre and she says the experience is meaningful and motivating.

“It’s cool to see that bottle fill up with liquid gold!” – Darshan

Her commitment grew even stronger in 2025 when another friend’s 20-year-old daughter woke up paralyzed from the chest down. She experienced a rare spinal stroke that required intensive plasma exchanges, each one relying on nearly 13 individual plasma donations. In response, Darshan helped create a Partners for Life team with Canadian Blood Services. Today, the team has 106 members and 224 donations, with more plasma drives on the way.

“As a Team Champion, I’ve helped organize two very successful plasma drives, with more to come! That’s a lot of life-saving plasma on its way to people who desperately need it.” - Darshan

Darshan also uses BCAA’s Dollars for Doers program to stretch her impact even further, donating her matched funds to two organizations close to her heart, Greyhaven Bird Sanctuary (“I’m a proud bird nerd”) and Katies Place Cat Shelter.

Darshan’s story is just one example of the passion and purpose that BCAA team members bring to their communities every day.

Every volunteer hour logged, every dollar donated and every personal story of compassion reinforces what we already know: when we empower our team members to give back, our communities grow more resilient.

Every year, BCAA team members are making a difference, helping kids reach their full potential, supporting disaster recovery efforts, protecting animals and contributing to life-saving medical treatments,

Looking ahead together

As we continue investing in the wellbeing of communities across the province, we recognize that the heart of BCAA’s impact is our people. Their stories inspire others and their actions strengthen communities. We’re proud of what our team members achieved this year and excited to see what we can accomplish together in the future.
