A near miss on the way to camping bliss

Mom and daughter setting up a camp

The kids, our pup and I were packed up and excited for a camping trip in Lake Country. Everything was loaded, spirits were high, and the road ahead felt full of promise. We made it as far as Kelowna when the truck started overheating. I pulled over and told the kids it looked like we might need to turn back before things got worse, but they did.

Just outside Westbank, right in the middle of rush hour, the truck completely died. Our large pickup was stuck in the road, traffic was piling up and people were honking and yelling. I was overwhelmed and in tears. It was one of those moments where everything feels like it’s spinning out of control.

That’s when BCAA arrived. The driver helped us get safely off the road, checked on all of us and immediately brought a sense of calm to a scary situation. Instead of being stranded, we were taken all the way to Penticton. And the help didn’t stop there.

Knowing how much this camping trip meant to us, the BCAA road assist team member stayed to help reload our gear into a borrowed vehicle so we wouldn’t lose our campsite. Thanks to that extra kindness, we were still able to head out and enjoy the getaway we’d been looking forward to.

It’s hard to imagine what would have happened if BCAA hadn’t shown up when they did. What started as a frightening breakdown turned into a moment of gratitude we won’t forget.
