BCAA’s Evolve E-Bike and E-Scooter Share is expanding in Nanaimo
Twenty one additional parking zones and, brand new this year, 60 Evolve e-scooters, increase access to active, affordable transportation options across the city.
Nanaimo, BC, June 10, 2025 – BCAA’s Evolve E-Bike and E-Scooter Share is expanding in Nanaimo with 21 additional parking zones and brand new this year, 60 Evolve e-scooters, increasing access to active, affordable transportation options across the city. The expansion brings Evolve E-Bike and E-Scooter Share to more neighbourhoods, extending the service area to North Nanaimo.
Evolve is expanding in response to growing demand from both residents and visitors for more ways to get around the city. Evolve riders in Nanaimo covered over 27,000 km in 2024, with 55% of trips taken by residents and 37% of users riding more than once.
In a recent survey, 77% of respondents said Evolve added value to the overall transportation system in Nanaimo, helping people get around quickly and easily to key spots around the city, local businesses and activities. Notable stations include the popular e-bike share station at Vancouver Island University (VIU) and in April, a new Evolve station launched at Hullo Ferries to support growing ferry traffic.
Safety continues to be a top priority for Evolve as they expand. Each Evolve E-Bike and E-Scooter comes equipped with built-in safety features like automatic lights, turn signals, and a shared helmet system to help ensure every ride is a safe one. To further support safe riding, Evolve will be hosting Safe Ride events in the community where riders can learn the rules of the road, practice safe riding habits, and get hands-on experience with the e-bikes and e-scooters.
Evolve E-Bike and E-Scooter Share is a made-in-BC service offering affordable and convenient micromobility options exclusively for communities across the province. The expansion in Nanaimo and addition of e-scooters is part of broader growth on Vancouver Island, which also includes the expansion of Evolve E-Bike Share in the Comox Valley Regional District, as well as the upcoming launch of Evolve services in Langford.
E-bikes and e-scooters can be accessed via the Evo app on iOS or Android. Riders simply unlock the Evolve E-Bike or E-Scooter using their smartphone and go. Helmets are included, and pricing includes pay-per-minute and monthly plans. For more information, visit: How It Works | Evolve E-Bike Share
