Work by Indigenous Artist Joshua Watts launches on Evolve E-Scooters

June 18, 2026, Squamish, BC: Launched during National Indigenous History Month, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and Evolve E-Bike and E-Scooter Share have partnered to display new Indigenous art on Evolve E-Scooters through the summer.

Specially commissioned custom artwork by Indigenous artist Joshua Watts now features on 25 Evolve E-Scooters serving Squamish Nation lands and the District of Squamish.

Watts, a Nuu-chah-nulth and adopted Sḵwx̱wú7mesh First Nations artist, is known for work that bridges cultural tradition and contemporary expression. Over the past 12 years, his practice has grown to include large-scale public art, carvings, prints and paintings – each piece serving as both a cultural landmark and a space for reflection.

For this project, Watts drew inspiration from the Thunderbird, a powerful figure in Indigenous culture. “The Thunderbird represents strength, energy and transformation,” said Watts. “It’s also a being that connects across land, people and generations, which felt fitting for something designed to move through the community.”

"Partnerships like the one with Evolve create new ways for people to encounter Indigenous art not in a gallery, but as a vibrant part of daily life," said Sxwíxwtn Wilson Williams, Chairperson, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation). "We're proud to support this initiative and hope everyone enjoys seeing Joshua Watts’ beautiful artwork as they move through the community this summer.”

Bringing culture into everyday movement

Incorporating Indigenous artwork into its fleet is a way for Evolve to support a more inclusive and locally rooted micromobility experience that reflects the community it serves.

In Whistler, Evolve’s partnership with the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC) has included showcasing Indigenous art since 2024. Evolve E-Bikes throughout Whistler feature original artwork by Chief Ray Natraoro (Ses Siyam), a well-respected artist from Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, and Redmond Q̓áwam̓ Andrews, a young artist from Lil̓wat7ul (Lil’wat Nation), both inspired by the Spo7ez story.

“We wanted to celebrate our expanded services across Squamish Nation and District of Squamish lands by supporting the creation of something unique for the community,” says Leanne Buhler, Head of Evolve. “Partnering with Joshua Watts and Squamish Nation helps us honour the lands on which we operate and the stories that shape it.”

Expanding access through inclusive mobility

Through the partnership, Squamish Nation community members and staff can access the Squamish Nation Community Rate, offering Evolve E-bike and E-scooter rides at over 70 per cent off standard pricing

The rate is part of Evolve’s Inclusive Mobility Program, which works with partner organizations across BC to support equity-deserving groups seeking affordable, active transportation options. Together, these efforts help make shared micromobility more accessible in the communities where Evolve operates.
