Keeping roadside workers and stranded motorists safe

Slow Down, Move Over

In British Columbia, between 2008 and 2017 there were a total of 12 roadside worker deaths and 218 injuries from being hit by a motor vehicle. To help keep tow truck drivers and other motorists safe, here’s what to remember as you approach a tow truck on the side of the road:

  • Slow down safely. Cars behind you will take your cue and slow down too.
  • Pay attention to the placement of the cones and if there are any traffic control persons in the roadway.
  • If it’s safe to do so, move over into a lane of traffic away from the cone zone.
  • Keep your speed slow through the cone zone.
