We’re building safer communities through child passenger safety
Every time you install a car seat or buckle your child into one, you want to know you’re doing it right. You want to be confident your child is as safe as possible, every time you are on the road. For over 28 years, BCAA’s Child Passenger Safety program (CPS) has been built around providing that piece of mind. Our CPS program supports parents, caregivers and community professionals with practical education, resources and trusted guidance.
A leader families can trust
BCAA is the leader in child passenger safety in British Columbia. In 2025 BCAA, together with our network of BCAA-trained CPS Educators delivered 2,647 educational sessions to parents and caregivers across the province, reaching families, caregivers and community professionals in big cities and small communities alike.
From fixing seats to building confidence
BCAA's program takes an 'educator' rather than a 'technician' approach where the focus is typically around checking and correcting child car seat use. Instead, we're empowering parents and caregivers with education to give them the knowledge and confidence to protect their children on the road. BCAA’s message is simple: protecting child passengers is not difficult and with a little knowledge anyone can do it safely and effectively.

Meet the educators behind the CPS program
Hailey: teaching with care and empathy
A CPS Educator/Instructor on Vancouver Island, Hailey brings both her professional and personal experience into every session. “I am a mom of three and a school teacher,” she says. “I love helping my community through this role as a car seat educator.”
Child passenger safety became important to Hailey when she saw how overwhelming car seat information can be for parents.
“Many parents are trying their best but are faced with conflicting information. Being able to empower them and build their confidence to help keep their children safe is incredibly meaningful to me,” she says. Hailey emphasizes that BCAA’s educator approach creates a safe space to learn. “We work hard to teach in a judgement-free zone. Providing information without shaming or guilt makes a huge difference in how confident parents feel.”
Renata: moments that reward you
A CPS Educator/Instructor for the past 2.5 years, Renata knows how powerful that confidence can be. A mother and former teacher, Renata remembers how eye-opening the training was: “I was shocked to learn about things I had done incorrectly with my own child’s car seat,” she says. “We often don’t know what we don’t know.”
There was one moment at a community clinic that really stands out to Renata. A mother returned with her growing family and asked Hailey to double check her new car seat installation. “She had installed the seat perfectly on her own because we had taught her how to do it before,” Renata says. “Seeing that confidence in action was incredibly rewarding.”
Colleen: the evolution of education
Another CPS Educator/Instructor, Colleen, is retiring this year after 22 years (!) with the program. She has now seen the CPS program evolve through generations of families.
“Child passenger safety matters because anyone transporting children should be doing so as safely as possible,” she says. Over the years, Colleen has worked with everyone from new parents to police officers and hospital staff. “If people walk away having learned something that helps keep families safer, that’s an incredibly gratifying feeling. People share what they learn with others in their communities and that’s how real change happens. To have been supported by BCAA to do my job to the best of my ability, with flexibility, confidence in my skills and knowledge, has made this the best job I've ever had!”
Stronger communities, one family at a time
Across BC, CPS Educators and Instructors deliver sessions in hospitals, fire halls, schools, community centres and family groups. By training caregivers, parents and professionals, the program strengthens entire communities. Parents leave sessions feeling less stressed and more empowered. Caregivers gain tools they can use and share to protect kids. Communities gain local educators who help families get reliable information that’s close to home.
A legacy of care
Our CPS program has supported families for over 28 years, creating a legacy of care, trust and community connection. As Hailey puts it, “To think of the number of people we’ve been able to help makes me so proud.” That pride is shared across the CPS network, from long-serving instructors like Colleen to newer instructors like Renata, all united by the belief that every parent deserves the tips and confidence to keep their child safe.
