FAQs

Renters insurance is not required by law in British Columbia. However, some landlords may ask tenants to have renters insurance as part of their tenancy agreement. It’s always a good idea to review your lease carefully. Even when it’s not required, renters insurance can help protect your belongings and provide liability coverage if you’re responsible for accidental damage or injury.
You can start a BCAA Home Insurance claim 24/7, either online or by phone by calling 1.888.268.2222. Have your policy number and details of the loss on hand. Once your claim is submitted, an adjuster will review it and contact you with next steps.
Yes. BCAA Renters Insurance generally covers your personal belongings even when they’re away from home, such as items stolen while you’re travelling or stored temporarily elsewhere. Coverage is subject to policy limits and special item limits, so it’s a good idea to review your policy wording or talk to an advisor if you have high‑value items.
